Barn Refurbishment, West Berkshire

Located in West Berkshire, this refurbishment project consist of the upgrade and restoration of a number of listed barn conversions into four double storey domestic dwellings. We will also provide new mains services, drainage, access roads and parking along with extensive landscaping and fencing.

The existing barns are timber framed structures which will be extensively repaired and re- roofed. The external envelopes are removed and remodelled in line with current regulations to form the wall construction of the houses.

The existing building repairs are extensive and include, temporary designed propping, new foundations and internal column support. Existing thatch and clay tile roofing is to be removed and replaced. New windows and doors sympathetic to the existing building will be introduced to complete the envelope.

Internal joists are strengthened along with the inclusion of glulam beams to form new 1st floors. Existing concrete slabs are removed and upgraded with and insulated floor slab including under floor heating.

The site has a high ecological status with numerous wildlife species including bats and nesting barn owls. We will to accommodate these throughout the construction programme along with the incorporation of special lofts to allow future bat nesting and fly zones which form a feature of the new residential unit design.
