Set around a large projected beech tree in central Oxford, this project involved the construction of a new four-storey quadrangle for St John's College.
Upper floors comprised 68 student bedrooms and six small flats, while the ground floor provided a café and kitchen, library, teaching rooms, and ancillary spaces such as toilets, offices, and storage. A large basement accommodated event rooms, a gymnasium, an archive, plant, and additional support areas, bringing the total floor area to 68,040 sqft.

The structure was formed from concrete fins, which reduced to columns at ground level, supporting in situ slabs, with pre-cast elements used for both decorative and structural purposes. Elevations combined glass and timber, with stone cladding to the spiral staircases and metal cladding at kitchen areas.

Key components, including bathroom pods, were pre-fabricated for efficient installation. External works included extensive protection measures for the listed trees, landscaping of lawns and hard surfaces, and the addition of a water feature.
