Founded in 1509, Brasenose College boasted a rich architectural heritage. The modernisation of its social, dining, and catering facilities created an opportunity to celebrate and reveal the historic fabric of the buildings.

The refurbished Hall and converted medieval kitchen now serves students and conference guests, with improved circulation linking kitchen facilities across both floors. Accessibility was enhanced through new lifts, resolving complex level changes.

At the heart of the design was a striking double-height pendentive dome, uniting two buildings and showcasing the exposed stone façades of the Old Quad and Jackson Building within a new foyer. The dome’s form allowed the roof to span seamlessly without disturbing original details, providing elegant access to the Senior Fellows’ rooms and dining areas above.

Close collaboration with local conservation officers and English Heritage ensured the project respected its historic context throughout.
